Founded in 1927 by Attorney Irving Steinberg, the firm has spent nearly a century advocating for individuals injured due to negligence, auto accidents, workplace accidents, and unsafe conditions. A Legacy of Advocacy Since 1927

Irving Steinberg was among the first Jewish attorneys practicing in Charleston at a time when discrimination was widespread. His personal experiences inspired him to dedicate his legal career to helping individuals who faced social and economic disadvantages, including African Americans and migrant workers.

Early in his career, Steinberg recognized the need for stronger legal protections for injured employees. At the time, South Carolina did not yet have workers’ compensation laws. Steinberg and several other attorneys studied statutes from other states and successfully advocated for the adoption of South Carolina’s workers’ compensation system in 1936. His work helped establish protections that continue to benefit injured workers today.

Over the following decades, the firm expanded with the addition of attorneys who shared Steinberg’s commitment to justice, including Irving Levkoff, Hugo Spitz, and Charles Goldberg. These attorneys also helped establish important legal organizations such as the South Carolina Association for Justice and Injured Workers’ Advocates, which continue to support injured individuals throughout the state.
