Tom Merriman is the Managing Partner of Merriman Legal, LLC, a Cleveland-based civil litigation firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury and class action matters. He earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Notre Dame before graduating cum laude from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he distinguished himself academically and served as a teaching assistant to Professor Roger Fisher, a leading authority on negotiation.
Following law school, he clerked for Chief Judge Frank J. Battisti of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and later practiced at a prominent Cleveland law firm. He went on to serve in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, where he held leadership roles, including Deputy Attorney General, overseeing major litigation initiatives and innovative enforcement programs.
He later spent 14 years as an investigative journalist, earning 37 Emmy Awards for reporting that exposed fraud, public corruption, and human rights issues. His work received national recognition and led to significant reforms.
