Biography Overview
Joseph Jabar, Sr., is the founder of the firm he established in 1979 and has returned to practice after an accomplished judicial career. He served 14 years on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and 8 years on the Maine Superior Court, bringing extensive judicial insight to his legal work.
Before taking the bench, he built a distinguished trial career. He served as a federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., District Attorney for Kennebec and Somerset Counties, and a trial attorney in private practice for over two decades. He has tried hundreds of criminal and civil jury cases and argued numerous appeals before Maine’s highest court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
His public service also includes time in the Maine Legislature on the Judiciary Committee, as well as roles as a Workers’ Compensation Commissioner and as chairman of the Executive Clemency Boards. He has remained active in his community through leadership roles in youth organizations and local government.
A graduate of Colby College and the University of Maine School of Law, he is also a Hall of Fame athlete. He lives in Waterville with his wife and family.
