Biography Overview
Attorney Dirk J. Derrick, founder of Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers, was born and raised in Conway, South Carolina. His strong work ethic began early—at just six years old, he worked as a farmhand on his grandfather’s tobacco farm in rural Horry County. The demanding summers in the fields motivated him to pursue education and professional success.
Dirk’s father, a high school teacher and former co-captain of the 1957 South Carolina Gamecock football team, instilled in him the values of competition, discipline, and perseverance. Dirk carried these traits into both academics and athletics, earning a football scholarship to Wofford College, where he played for four years before briefly coaching at East Tennessee State University. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987 and began practicing law in Horry County the following year.
In 1991, Dirk established Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers, which has since grown to include 25 attorneys and over 60 staff members across 10 offices statewide. Recognized for his innovative approach, Dirk developed in-house courtrooms and proprietary data models to enhance trial preparation.
He has been honored by Best Lawyers and named a South Carolina Super Lawyer from 2023 to 2025 for his excellence in personal injury and workers’ compensation law.
